Melbourne is the creative hub of Australia; it hosts incredible events and some of the best art shows in the Southern Hemisphere. As the days slowly begin to shorten, here are some exhibitions to go and see if you happen to be in and around the city.

William Eggleston Portraits, The National Gallery of Victoria

This series shows the soul of the Deep South and Eggleston’s true artistic skill for taking photos of seemingly ordinary people doing seemingly ordinary things and creating beautiful art.

17 March – 18 June (Free)

If you can’t get to see the exhibition check it out in book form: William Eggleston Portraits (£30)

Chen Wei: In the Waves, Centre for Contemporary Photography

Wei’s work is a selection of staged club photos intended to call in to question China’s ban on large gatherings (which excludes nightclubs) while also highlighting other social issues.
